Perler Beads Necklace

Materials needed
  • Perler beads
  • Perler bead templates
  • Iron
  • Wax paper
Directions: Have the kids put the beads in whatever pattern they like. Make sure all the beads connect some way. Cover with wax paper, iron until beads melt together. Immediately peel of of wax paper so that it doesn't stick to the back of the beads, let cool and put string through it for a necklace.

This works great with younger kids who are trying to work on their fine motor skills. Sometimes kids get frustrated when they try to fill in the entire shape, but find it much easier to manage only filling in the outline. + you get to make a neat necklace out of it. Older kids can fill in more of the shape, and you can poke a hole through one of the beads to string it through. I thought the girls would be more interested in the project, but the boys were equally excited. Some even wore their necklaces to school the next day.
